如果你習慣拿Firefox來做網頁設計，Flashblock大概是一個遲早會裝來用的附加元件（extensions）。
Flashblock，顧名思義就是用來擋Flash的工具。
至於，為什麼要擋Flash？
簡單地說，絕大多數網頁上的Flash元件都在虛耗資源。
除了多數Flash元件都是亂槍打鳥的廣告之外，不管你有沒有在看就自行反覆播放的普遍設置，也都平白浪費許多記憶體跟CPU，結果就是拖垮主機效能，還消耗了更多不必要的電量。
Apple MacBook Air剛推出時，由於沒有內建Flash而引發爭議。有人說Apple故意排擠Flash，也許吧。但，排擠Flash有什麼好處？
其實，想想為什麼要在Firefox上裝Flashblock就知道了。
不過，還是有人具體進行了比較科學客觀的實測。
Having Flash installed can cut battery runtime considerably—as much as 33 percent in our testing. With a handful of websites loaded in Safari, Flash-based ads kept the CPU running far more than seemed necessary, and the best time I recorded with Flash installed was just 4 hours. After deleting Flash, however, the MacBook Air ran for 6:02—with the exact same set of websites reloaded in Safari, and with static ads replacing the CPU-sucking Flash versions.
根據實測結果，安裝了Flash之後，11" MacBook Air的電池續航力為4小時，而沒有安裝Flash的11" MacBook Air則為6小時。
MacBook Air在硬體規格說它的電池續航力為5至7小時，從實測結果來看，如果不堅持排擠Flash，根本沒辦法吹這種牛皮。
